2021 Penley Project Grenache
Variety. Grenache
Winemaking. From the Craven Vineyard in McLaren Flat, this Grenache was hand-picked on the 26th of March '21 from a patch of 120+ year old Grenache vines, fermented with 30% whole bunch, two weeks on skins, then into seasoned French oak for seven months.
Tasting Comment. Our Grenache is quite evocative in style and mouth feel. With notes of raspberries and spice, a hint of pink grapefruit brings loads of fragrant perfume. The palate is textural, almost creamy, laid with loads of flavour and the perfect amount of whole bunch sitting in the background.
Label Concept. One of our favourite parts of making project wines is collaborating with amazing artists. This time we were lucky enough to work with Ana Popescu – a visual artist from France, based in Vienna. Ana applies an almost nostalgic feeling to her very vibrant style and loves to see the beauty in the everyday. For our label, Ana painted the Grenache bush vines from McLaren Flat, with our Coonawarra winery in the background to bring the two regions together.
PLEASE NOTE - This is a cleanskin wine.
